Singer Ellynora spent £3,000 to… butcher God Save The King
Italian-American singer Ellynora was delighted when she was asked to perform Britain’s national anthem ahead of the team’s clash with Italy in Naples. She actually spent £3,000 to get from Miami to the match’s venue. But her excitement was short-lived. She absolutely butchered God Save The King and Twitter has gone on a no-bars-held trolling campaign.

The first notes started playing. England internationals closed their eyes and prepared to sing the anthem. But then… Ellynora started singing the anthem. And all eyes were on her for the wrong reasons. The players’ reactions were priceless, as they were trying to understand what was happening and what that botched version of God Save the King was supposed to mean.
After it was all done, the 28-year-old singer, born in Rome, burst into tears. She tried to be cheeky by posting an Instagram story which only made things worse. “England, I hope you enjoyed my gift,” she wrote, adding a selfie with a seemingly innocent victory sign. She probably didn’t know that this V-pose has a much more vile meaning in the UK…
She immediately apologised for her performance. “I want to say I’m sorry to all the England fans who were at the stadium and those watching on TV. I am mortified for what happened and I want people to know that I was not being disrespectful.”
She stated that she felt honoured that she was asked to perform God Save the King and added that a major problem with her earpiece, which was not there during the rehearsals, through her way off. “I had the music in my ear and then it stopped and started again, and I was hearing it twice, so it meant I was out of synch, and it was hard for me to catch up,” she said.
In an interview after the match, she revealed that the invitation was last minute, so she travelled from Miami to Rome and then drove to Naples, a trip that cost her £3,000. She now claims that she will release a recorded version of her singing the anthem, to prove that she can do it right.
It remains to be seen if this will destroy her career, or if she will become more popular than ever before. Truth be told, her Instagram account is gaining followers after her lacklustre performance, so maybe there is no such thing as bad publicity.
