Todd Boehly and Chelsea fans are ready to live the Mauricio Pochettino era at the club. It is reported that the Argentinian manager (who hadn’t agreed with any team for almost a year) will be the new Chelsea permanent head coach. The talks between the two sides are more than positive, meaning that he can be considered as Graham Potter’s replacement (Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard agreed on a short-term contract).
Keeping all that in mind, it is wise for the Blues to start the plans for next season. It is well known that Chelsea’s managers had many solutions regarding the players, as the recruitment was wide in the past months. But none of them managed to bring stability and perform something enjoyable on the pitch. This will be the toughest task of them all for the ex-PSG (among others) coach, who has already started reviewing the roster.
Despite evaluating what is in the club, all sides also consider the transfer moves needed to be done in the summer. Chelsea hosted Brentford last night (the visitors had an easy evening winning 0-2) and Boehly had the chance to see two of the team’s main targets: goalkeeper David Raya and attacker Ivan Toney. Both of them are crucial parts of this year’s success under Thomas Frank and many think that they should move to a top-six club this summer. Both of them are linked to a London move for quite some time now. Raya considered it a top priority to replace both Kepa and Eduard Mendy as the new No.1 under the goalpost. Toney would be another great attacking option, but Chelsea must also focus on departures. The roster has many players, many of whom are not even appreciated by the club.
It will be a busy summer for Chelsea and Pochettino has many obstacles to overcome in the next months.
