The Euro 2024 qualifiers are on and what better way to start this journey than with a Euro 2020 final rematch? Italy vs England is one of the most historic matchups in European football. They should not be worried about their survival in the group, which also contains Ukraine, Malta and North Macedonia. But a win means more than the three points.
Italy vs England
Date: Thursday, 23 March 2023
Time: 19:45
Venue: Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Napoli
Italy’s presence in national teams competitions was long to be reviewed, as the team had been eliminated from the World Cup 2022 qualifiers and didn’t travel to Qatar. It was a shocking event, keeping in mind that Mancini’s squad are the current European champions. Gianluca Viali, the closest partner to the Italian coach, has passed away recently, making everyone sad. Italy seems like a wounding animal at this point, but the team knows how to be competitive against England. Azzurri not only won on penalties in the Euro 2022 final but also won once in the Nations League.
Mancini called up three uncapped players: Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone, Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno and Atletico Tigre striker Mateo Retegui. Ciro Immobile is out injured while Napoli’s Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca of West Ham United have lacked playing time. The Italian coach chose to include the latter though, despite his struggles in England.
England ended yet another major campaign in disappointment. The Three Lions had been eliminated in the quarter-finals by one of the two finalists, France. The fans were not furious though, as the team performed well in Doha. They may have lost 2-1 to France, but Garath Southgate’s players were better than their opponents. Consistency is always an issue for the FA, but all in the country keep their faith alive. The truth is that the Englishmen are always magnificent in the qualifiers. Chasing the first Euro in the national team’s history is all that they care about.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney is called up after missing out at the World Cup, while Southgate also included Harry Maguire, despite his usual poor performances and reduced role. Ben White and Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t make it, while Solly March and Ollie Watkins also missed out. Kalvin Phillips is part of the squad again, but the midfielder has played a small number of minutes at Manchester City.
Italy is offered at 2.90 and England at 2.55, with the draw set at 3.30.
The over/under line is set at 2.5 goals, with the over at 2.20 and the under at 1.67.
The Both Teams to Score Option is valued at 1.91, and the “No” is at 1.86.
