There’s nothing better than kicking off the season by getting your hands on some silverware. Liverpool and Manchester City, the FA Cup Winners and the English Premier League Champions, are facing off in Leicester in the Community Shield 2022. Many consider those the two best teams in Europe, so the season starts with a bang, when they meet in Leicester’s King Power Stadium, on July 31.
This shall be our first chance to see the two clubs’ new signings in action. Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips now call Manchester home, while Liverpool have welcomed Darwin Nunez. And who knows? Maybe until then there will be some more new recruits added.
For the second time since the New Wembley was built, the FA Community Shield will not be played there (first being the 2012 event, which was played in Villa Park). City will face Liverpool in King Power Stadium, home of last year’s winner, Leicester City. The Community Shield returns to Leicester for the first time since 1971, when it was played in Filbert Street (Leicester – Liverpool 1-0).
The reason behind that is that Wembley is being used the same day for the Women’s UEFA Euro 2022 championships.
The game will kick off at 17:00 (GMT) on the 31st of July amd in will be broadcast in the UK on ITV.
The odds are fairly even. Since they last faced each other for the Community Shield, back in 2019 (City won on penalties), they have played seven times. They’ve each recorded two wins, while three contests ended up in a draw.
Manchester City are offered at 7/5, while Liverpool to win is offered at 17/10. The draw is priced at 12/5. Now, whether they win during regulation, or on penalties (there is no extra time), City are offered at 4/5 and Liverpool is at 1/1.
