Champions League: Mbappe’s return will help PSG

John Sampson March 1, 2023

The second leg of the Champions League’s last-16 round is on its way, meaning that there are not so many days left to see who will be a member of the best eight teams in Europe. It is also really promising that none of next week’s encounters is of no interest, as the first leg results brought any conclusion to the matchups.

Benfica managed to play at a very good level in Belgium and beat Club Brugge 0-2. The Portuguese team was better than its opponents and could find the net more easily. Joao Mario was again a valuable individual to the whole group against a team that looks unstable in all competitions. In Tuesday’s matchup, Benfica is favoured at 1.41, Club Brugge is at 6.55 and the draw is set at 4.45, on another tough night for the Belgian squad. Benfica proves once more that is part of the Champions League, reaching its later stages, while Brugge will try to find a miracle.

Chelsea played fantastically at Signal Iduna Park (maybe the best game of the team under Graham Potter) but again, the team ended the match scoreless. The 1-0 Westfalian win was the product of Karim Adeyemi’s tremendous goal, as Borussia Dortmund have won every game in 2023. Chelsea’s odds are at 1.76, Dortmund’s are at 4.10 and the draw is at 3.60. Chelsea’s manager is facing the danger of dismissal, so every game counts more for him. Champions League is where Chelsea and Dortmund always want to compete.

AC Milan beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 and will travel to London for a chance to reach its first Champions League quarter-finals since 2011/2012. Brahim Diaz was the only scorer of the first game against a team that could score too. Conte’s players perform better at home, so it will be very interesting to see who will be more careful. To qualify in the next Champions League round is a major goal for both of them. Tottenham is favoured at 1.91, AC Milan is at 3.65 with the draw being set at 3.35.

Last but not least is the huge derby of the week. Bayern Munich won against PSG in France, stating that it is a better team. Nagelsmann took some risks that could be dangerous in the second half with the entry of Mbappe. The French star will be available from the start of the second match and he is hungry for more. Bayern could use its home ground to take advantage of Paris Saint Germain’s ups and downs. The Germans are the favourites with their odds being set at 1.78. PSG’s odds to win are at 3.55, while the draw is at 4.05. Champions League is what is left of Mbappe’s trophy case, so he will do everything to help his team.
